Once Lord Narayanan was spending time with Goddess Lakshmi here. Goddess Bhumi Devi felt that Lord Narayanan was ignoring Her even after coming to the earth. So, She got angry and left for Pathaala Lok.
The earth dried up because of Her absence. The Devas worshipped Lord Narayanan to save the earth.
Lord Narayanan, along with Sridevi, left for Paathala Lok and pacified Bhumi Devi. He proclaimed that both of them are equal and along with them, He gives darshan in this temple.
As He saved the earth from destruction, He is known as Bhumi Palaka Perumal or Kaysina Vendan.
The Lord here is in Bhujanga Sayanam on Lord Adi Seshan. The 12-feet idol is magnificent to look at! From His navel, a lotus stalk goes up and Lord Brahma is seated on it. Sridevi and Bhudevi are seated near His Feet!
One can have darshan of the Lord’s Feet through a window near His Feet.
250 liters of oil is required to perform “Oil Kaappu” (oil bath) to the Lord!
Lord Indira is said to have been relieved of his Brahma Hatya dosham (sin) here.
The temple address is: Sri Bhoomi Palakar Temple, Tirupuliangudi, Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu. .
