This place is known as Natham or Varaguna Mangai.
A sage named Vedavi wanted to chant Asanadai mantra to get the blessings of Lord Narayanan. When he was planning to start chanting the mantra, Lord Narayanan approached him in the form of an old man and told him to go to Varagunamangai and carry out the penance.
Vedavi too came to Varagunamangai, chanted the Asanadai mantra and attained Mukti.
As the Lord appeared after Vedavi chanted the Asanadai mantra, He came to be known as Vijayasanar.
The Lord gave darshan to Sage Romesar, Agni Deva and Savithri here.
