Thirukkavalampadi or Gopalakrishna Perumal Temple is located in Thirunangur in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the 6th–9th centuries AD. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Gopalakrishnan and his consorts Lakshmi as Rukmini and Sathyabama.
Kavalam in Tamil means a dense flower garden.
Lord Krishna wanted to spend happy times with Bama in a place as beautiful as Dwaraka. Kavalampadi is one such place.
The legend is that Goddess Sri Satyabhama revealed her desire to Lord Krishna to have Parijatha flowers. The Lord went in search of Parijatha flowers to please His consort Goddess Sri Satyabhama. He continued His search for the flowers for long but was unsuccessful.
He meditated upon Lord Shiva, and with the help of Lord Shiva, He located a land full of Parijatha flowers in abundance. Consequently, Lord Krishna with His consorts Satyabhama and Rukmini arrived on this sacred land and resided here when they felt like. This is one of the holiest places, which is believed to be equivalent to Dwaraka.
It is in this temple that Lord Krishna planted the Parijatha tree, very dear to Satyabhama. The Lord gave darshan to Lord Shiva and Senainayakar. Though small in size, this is a very beautiful temple.
Kavalampadi (Thirunangoor) is situated on Sirkazhi-Poompuhar Road.
