Kolli (Agni) worshipped the Lord here and the place is called Kollikkadu. 

For the same reason, the lingam is slightly red in color. 

Also for the same reason, the Lord is called Thee vanna nathar (the colour of fire).

Saturn’s shrine is of significance here; by worshipping this Lord and Ambal, Nalan got back all his wealth and health after worshipping at Thirunallar.

 Lord Muruga is seen with a bow and arrow instead of his vael.

The Idol of Saneeswara is seen with kalappai or plough(right) and crow (left) in his upper two arms. The lower left hand by his side has Ooru Hastam and the right hand as Abaya Hastam (Arumugamurthy). 

Shani Bhagavan was very upset for he was being held responsible for all the woes of a human beings. He prayed to Agneeswarar at Thirukollikadu after bathing in Agnitheertham. 

Lord Shiva gave him Dharsan and praised him for his justice towards one and all. 

He appreciated his impartial justice based on the deeds of a human beings; He further pleased Saneeswara by asking him to reside in the temple as ‘Pongusani’ showering his blessings on devotees.
