The Dakshina Kannada district, which is also known as "Tulunadu," is home to Daivasthana's & Temples, which can be found in every village and is believed to be safeguarding the welfare of the people. Among them, the famous Shree Kodamanitthaya Daivasthana situated in the village of Shibaroor of Dakshina Kannada district is one of them which is surrounded by the natural landscape and is considered to be the holy and most ancient in the nearby region. It has been the divine seat to thousands of devotees who has blessed their prayers. The deity of this Daivasthana is also known as the "Doctor of poison" for his divine power of curing those bitten by poison serpents.

The Shibaroor temple is just 25 kms away from Mangalore city, 2 Kms from Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple, Kateel and is just 3 kms away from Kinnigoly when traversed via newly constructed bridge near Shibaroor.

As historical records reveal, when Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga were roaming around the forests, there was the emergence of an invisible power from Goddess Durga. The local people, by taking the assistance of a wizard, trapped this invisible power in a Kumbha and sailed it on the water of the river Mahaveera Ganga. The Jain rulers of Perinje found this Kumbha, and when they opened it, the Daiva appeared. This Daiva was named Kumbha Kantini.

About 700 years ago, the two devotees, Timmathi Karival of Tibar Guthu and Dugganna Kava of Yekkar Kavara Mane, reached Iruvail on their way to visit different holy places. There they offered Vow and accepted Prasadam. On their way back home, the Ullaya Daiva and Kodamanithaya Daiva followed the pious Timmathi Karival and reached his home at Tibar. He built a shrine for them at Matada Gudda on the bank of the river Nandini. Dwajarohana, festival ceremonies, etc.were also celebrated with religious fervour. A unique combination, "Nature" and "Man," emerged as Rajan Daiva, and it is renowned for its divinity as Shibaroor Kodamanithaya on the bank of the river Nandini.

There is an interesting story about the holy water of the well found in the vicinity of the Daivastana. Shri Thyampanna Shetty, Soorinje Guthu possessed a divine stone that had a marvellous power of absorbing poison and curing various diseases by means of Ekamoolika Prayog. As per the wishes of the Daiva, he dropped that stone into that well for the sake of the welfare of people. Since then, the water of that well has become a panacea for all diseases. Kodamanithaya Daiva is also eminent as Vaidyanatha by dint of this holy water. One who uses this holy water can get rid of Naga Dosha, poison-effect skin diseases, asthama, and Santhana-Dosha problems.
