Mavin Kurve is an island surrounded by Saraswati River. The village Mavin Kurve can be reached from Honnvar by crossing the river Sharawati by boat or by road. Honnavar is about 30 Km from Murdeshwar.
Goddess Navadurga temple at Mavin Kurve is one of the 30-odd Navadurga temples located in Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka.
Navrathri is celebrated in a grand manner and Goddess Navadurga is decorated differently on all nine days.
During the Navrathri festival, the event “Vade-punav” is conducted. A team of devotees participates in this event. After taking a holy bath, the team of devotees takes Prasad from the Goddess and starts the event.
On a huge earthen oven, an iron “Kadai” containing cooking oil is heated up to its boiling limit. Then, a team of volunteers pours the dough for making vada in the boiling oil.
The team of devotees, one after the other, pray to the Goddess, put their hands in the boiling oil and pick out vadas!
