Shree Karaneeka Hanumantha Temple situated at Hanuman Nagar of the Coastal Mangaluru city. It is a century old Mujarai temple known for its unique features. In 1830 on learning the hard ships faced by Udupi Madhwa Swamiji to perform Madhwa Pooja & Pravachanas independently, Somayya Rao the Deshasta Brahmin sought a necessity of a Madhwa institution in Mangaluru city and built the temple then.

Since Somayya Rao was cleric or Karaneek by profession, the temple was known Karneeka Hanumantha Devasthana. It is constructed for the Manasa pooja of Shree Vadiraja and Sri Guru Raghavendra who are known for fulfilling the aspiration of common man and also for the preachings of Udupi Madhva matt swamijies (pontiff). As such the place is also called as Upadhyaya Mutt and it is believed to be sacred and punya karya to participate in the Jnanayagna of Bhagavata purana being held here for years now.

The main deity lord Anjaneya known as the Mukhya Prana devaru is of Golden color and is considered a rare one of its kind everseen else where easily as its face is in front ward direction while it is common to see a side ward facing Anjaneya Vigraha at other places. As such the Temple is known as Edirumukhada Anjaneya Temple having Abhaya hasta and Sanjeevini Balli.

Aradhana Mahothsava of Sri Sode Vadiraja theertha Sreepadaru and Mantralaya Guru Raghavendra Theertha sreepadaru and Hanumantargata Sree Seetharamachandra will be held every year here and Jnanayagna of Bhagavata Purana is carried out continuously for over a years now.
