- Sthala Puran
The temple is situated in Puthoor village in Malappuram district in Kerala. The sanctum sanctorum, where the presiding deity Lord Shiva resides, is in the form of Shivalinga (a phallic representation of Lord Shiva) and is fully filled with water. The temple is currently under the aegis of Malabar Devaswom Board.
This is a famous Mahakshethram. The temple is on a hill top where the Swayamboo Siva is housed in a rather big Sreekovil. Darshan is towards east. Here 3 poojas are offered and 2 Seevelis.

There are steps on the east and west sides to get to the temple. Although located at the top of a hill, the 2 ponds and the well in the temple facilities are full of water.
