The Pournamikavu temple is a temple that opens only on the full moon (pournima) days; also on some special occasions like Navaaham, festivals, etc. The main deity is Sri. Bala Bhadra Devi who is believed to be in her five different forms of Sri BhadraKali, namely Bala Bhadra, Soumya Bhadra, Veera Bhadra, Krodha Bhadra, Samhaara Bhadra.
Sri Bala Bhadra Devi was the Padakaaliyamman (the war-goddess) who was worshipped during the reign of the Aazhi royal family (based in Thiruvananthapuram)
The devotees come here to offer their plea to the Goddess, mainly for curing their diseases, accomplishing their desires, solving their issues, etc. The devotees come from various places on Pournami (Full moon day).

On Pournami day, the various offerings performed at the temple include, Maha Ganapathi Homam, Saraswathi Pooja, Lakshmi Pooja, Pournami Pooja, Special Pooja, Kalasha Pooja, Kalasha abhishekam, Sri Chakra Pooja, Panja Shakthi Pooja, Sarva Dosha Nivarana Pooja, Sarva KaryaSidhhi pooja, Sarva Roga Nivarana Pooja, Chandika Homam. These are performed along with the usual poojas held five times during the day. The devotees also take the lamp fuelled with ghee (ghee-lamp) to offer their prayers to the Goddess; which is called 'Deepa Pradhakshinam'.
