Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva, a Muthappan (Forefather) of Kannanam Kulam Kalari with his son Velayudha Muthappan and disciples travelled from the north of Pattambi to see the Bharani Vela at Kodungallur Sree Kurumba Temple. Both Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan and his son were great devout of Lok Matha Parashakti and BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI. They were also masters in Astrology, Manthra, Thanthra, Vedic Hymns and Kalari Payattu (Martial art of Kerala). On their return from Kodungallur, they felt tired and stopped at Perinjanam - Pathinezhu. Admiring their divinity on their face, a Shudra gave them place to rest. As a gift for his warm hospitality, the father and son predicted the Past, Present and Future of the Shudra. Astonished by their predictions, which were true, the Shudra praised their skill. The people who came to know of the predictions of Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan and his son through the Shudra, rushed in to see them and in order to know their fate. As per the request of the Shudra and the peoples of Perinjanam - Pathinezhu, the Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan agreed to stay with his son for some days at Perinjanam - Pathinezhu. By that time their fame became well known at Perinjanam - Pathinezhu and nearby villages. They were given a special homage at Ayiroor Sri Maha Vishnu Kshetram which has a significant impact & importance on now known Sri Kannanam Kulam Kalari.

The Adhikari of Chandrapani Swaroopam (Land of RUDRA-SHIVA adorned with crescent moon), now called as Chenthrappinni came to know of Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan and his son. He called upon Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan and his son and requested them to stay at Chandrapani Swaroopam (Chenthrappinni) as the guardians of SHRI KANNANAM KULAM SHIVA TEMPLE. Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan was not interested to accept this as they have to leave back to Pattambi but as it was for a good motivation and the matter of the Temple of Lord Shiva, he was unable to deny their request. Unwillingly but thinking that it was God’s wish, Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappan asked his son Velayudha Muthappan to stay at Chandrapani Swaroopam (Chenthrappinni) and he will return back to Pattambi. Taking the words of his father, Velayudha Muthappan agreed to stay. As a father Acharya Aryabatta Vasudeva Muthappa wished to see his son’s marriage before he leave to Pattambi. Accordingly Velayudha Muthappan married Karthyayani Muthashi (Foremother). The Adhikari of Chandrapani Swaroopam (Chenthrappinni) honoured Velayudha Muthappan with a family name “Kannanam Kulam Kalari”. Karthyayani Muthashi gave birth to three sons – Manu, Govindan and Krishnan respectively. Govinda Muthappan, the second son of Velayudha Muthappan was a genius. He mastered Astrology, Vedas, Manthras, Thanthras, Vedic Hymns and Kalari Payattu in his youth. Hearing the legend of BHAGVAN SRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI from his father, Govinda Muthappan decided to take BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI SEVA (Penance to attain the bless of God). With the permission of his father and mother, he went to Aathipanthallur (Near Kunnamkulam, Thrissur District). Reaching the Aathipanthallur Bhagavathy Temple, the place where Maya Leela (Cosmic Drama) of Durga Devi took place; Govinda Muthappan began his BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI SEVA.

“The Aathipanthallur Temple is actually the temple of RUDRA-SHIVA but Durga Bhagavathy is given more prominence due to her Maya Leela (Cosmic Drama). BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI is worshipped at the Kanjara Tree, the place where he leaped and sat from the furnace”. Govinda Muthappan’s Seva was with utmost devotion and it continued nearly one year. Pleased by his devotion BHAGVAN SRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI appeared before him and insisted him to request a boon. Accordingly Govinda Muthappan requested BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI to settle at Shri Kannanam Kulam Karimkutty Chathan Ummama Chathan Durga Bhagavathy Kalari Sthanam showering his blessings to all the devotes who come and pray at Shri Kannanam Kulam Karimkutty Chathan Ummama Chathan Durga Bhagavathy Kalari Sthanam, thus fulfilling their wish to attain Salvation and Liberation and free from Shani Dosha (Azhara Shani, Kandaka Shani & Ashtama Shani), Graha Dosha (Crisis at home), Shatru Dosha (Crisis from foe), Badah Dosha (Crisis from evil power) and all Malefic Planets Dosha’s. And as it is understood that BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI is the imposture of AYAPPA-DHARMASHASTA, thus devotees can fulfil their ambition to perform their offerings to AYAPPA-DHARMASHASTA in their style by performing their offerings to BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI.BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI, the Athamakala of AYAPPA-DHARMASHASTA assured his presence at Shri Kannanam Kulam Karimkutty Chathan Ummama Chathan Durga Bhagavathy Kalari Sthanam as a boon to Govinda Muthappan’s devotion. Satisfied and cheered, Govinda Muthappan returned back to his home and installed a deity of BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI along with Thrayambika Bhagavathy in which BHAGVAN SHRI KARIMKUTTY CHATHAN SWAMI settled in as the protector of Govinda Muthappan’s family and his devotees and blessed them with prosperity and wealth. Currently Shri Kannanam Kulam Karimkutty Chathan Ummama Chathan Durga Bhagavathy Kalari Sthanam is under the patronage of Brahma Shri. Viswambhara KV Panicker (Astrologer / Mantric / Tantric) S/O. Late. Vasudeva KV Panicker (Vasudeva II), his sons Vijith KV Panicker and Sujith KV Panicker are the next heir's of the Temple.
