The sanctum sanctorum is surrounded by Dakshinamoorthy, Kala Byravar, Sivadurga, Chandikeswarar, Sun, Moon and Sanibagavan. Navagrahas are on display with their vehicles. The Durga here is a bit aggressive as Shiva Durga, without saying 'I will save the devotees from any danger'. A statue of Arunagirinathar is also dedicated in the temple.
The role of Thirumuruga Kirupanandavariyar Swami, Tamil scholar KV Jagannathan and Palaniappan in renovating this very old site is noteworthy. Warrior Swamis used to come to this town every month to give lectures and KV Jagannathan gave the funds raised to them to renovate the temple and perform Kumbabhishekam. Then in 2003 a consecration is said to have taken place.
Like Palani, Murugapperuman, who looks west as a bridge-wielding man, is the lord of wisdom. Lord Murugan, who gives education and wisdom to those who worship Him, also removes our anger and arrogance.
