A replica of the Sri Kanchi Kamakshi temple was constructed and consecrated on February 19, 2006.
The Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple is similar to Sri Kanchi Kamakshi temple except that a Maha Meru Pratishta is done instead of the Srichakra of Salagrama sila that Adi Sankara consecrated before Devi Kamakshi at Kanchi.
The idol of the Goddess in the form of Rajarajeswari, in the sitting posture with four hands holding in them a bow of sugarcane, five flower arrows, noose and a goad respectively, is 5.8 ft. tall and was made at Kanchipuram by the sculptor Ramakrishna Stapathy.
A Shiva Lingam is installed inside the sanctum sanctorum of Goddess Kamakshi.
Idols of Lord Ganesh and Lord Subrahmanya are installed outside the main temple.
Idols of Guru Adi Shankara, Bhairavar, Ganesh, and Ardhanareeswarar are installed in the main temple outside the sanctum sanctorum of Goddess kamakshi.
A floor to wall photo of Kanchi Mahan Maha Periyava adds divinity to the temple.
The temple is mainatined by South Indian Education Society of Mumbai and the temple is located at Nerul, New Mumbai.
- Architecture
The temple occupies an area of 5 acres (2.0 ha). The sanctum houses the image of Kamakshi in seated posture and is flanked by the trinity of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. There are smaller shrines of Bangaru Kamakshi, Adi Shankara and Maha Saraswathi around the sanctum.
