Between 1556 and 1600, the Maa Kalika temple was established on the banks of the octagonal Jhali pond in the center of the city. According to Aina-e-Akbari, about 500 Rajput families lived in the city. It is believed that the members of these families established Maa Kalika for worship. Since then till now the worship of the mother is done on a grand level every day.
