Jambukeshwar temple in Jamkhandi is situated in the northern banks of river Cauvery. Jamkhandi lies in the rain shadow of the Western Ghats in North Karnataka, close to the border towns of Miraj and Sangli in Maharashtra. It was built during the reign of Chola Kings in 2nd century A.D.
The temple is called Jambukeshwar because it was located deep inside a Blueberry grove (Jambul in Marathi). It was the Jambukeshwar temple from which the town derived its name.
