        HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE
        Sri Ekambareswarar and Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple situated at Chettikulam, Perambalur District is an ancient Temple of about 1000 years old. These temples were built by “Kula Sekara Pandiyan” one of the ruler of Pandiya Kingdom, Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple is a Rock Temple and the main Deity Dhandayuthapani (Lord Murugan) holding sugarcane is his hand. The “Panguni Uthiram festival is a major festival and is declared as “Notified festival” by the then British Government. On the Tamil Month of “Masi” 19, 20, 21 the sun God prays the Lord Dhandayuthapani by his Rays before sun set. Like this the sun God prays the Lord Ekambareswarar (Lord SHIVA) and Mother KAMASHI (GODDESS) by his rays on the Tamil Month of Punguni 19, 20, 21 at the time of Sunrise. The 100ft Rajagopuram of Lord Ekambareswarar is the biggest one in Perambalur District. The sculptures of “Lord Kuberan” is located in this temple.

        LOCATION

        This temple is located at a distance of 7 kms west to the Trichy – Chennai National Highway which is 50 kms North to Trichy and 15 kms south to Perambalur. The National famous temple of Sri Madhura Kali Amman , Siruvachur is located towards the south about 15 kms. The international famous temple “Gangai Konda Cholapuram” is located at a distance of 52 kms towards the North – East direction.



        JUSTIFICATION OF THE SCHEME

        This temple is a rock temple surrounded by his and one of the most important Tourist Place of Perambalur District. Panguni Uthiram is the Major festival and nearly 3 lakh people participated in this festival. More than that 5000 people visited this temple for a month. Now, there is no rest shed in and around the temple. Hence, a dormitory is essentialloy needed near the Dormitory building. At the time of Panguni Utiram thousands of devotees taking bath at Tappakulam. Hence, a dressing room is also needed and no such facility is there at the Tappakulam. The temple car is running around the hill at the time of Panguni Utthiram and now only a mud road is available around the hill. Hence black topping of the mud road is needed.
