    Sthala Puran
    The temple is situated in Maruthamalai reserve forest within the Coimbatore Corporation limit in Perur Taluk, Coimbatore. It is about 15 km distance from the Coimbatore Town.

    The temple is located in such a national surroundings at a height of 50 cm above the general level in Maruthamalai which in a part of western ghats. The main deity of this temple is Arulmigu Subramaniasamy.

    Kongunadu is known for its ancient history and Glory. Maruthamalai temple adds pride to the Glorious Kongunadu.
    Saint Kachiappa has quoted about Maruthamalai in Perur Puranam . Maruthavarai Chapter as read fellow,

    Another literary reference in connection with Maruthamalai Temple in perur puranam is,The history behind this were King Kusathavarajan who the devotee of Perur Patteswarar get two daughters with the blessings of the Lord Shivas. Perur Sivapuranam oxidized his devotee Kusthavarajan to Worship Maruthamalai Andavar in oxder to get a male child.

    Maruthamalai Temple was constructed first by Kongu Cholas. Later Thirppani was carried out by Vijaya Nagar Kings and Kongu Kings.

    The existence of Temple is evident from the fact that the common people were named after the Maruthamalai God as Maruthachalam, Maruthuvaraiyan, Maruthappan, Maruthaiyan etc.,

    There names were mentioned in the inscriptions of 12th Centiury which were in the Avinashi and Thirumuruganpoondi temples.

    Marutham trees are grown in abudance in Maruthamalai Hill, hence it is called by the name Maruthamalai. Marutham tree is the sthalaviruksham. The lord in the temple is known as Maruthamalai Andavar meaning chieftain of Maruthamalai Hills and he also called by different names as Maruthamalaiyan, Maruthappan, Maruthachalamoorthy.
    The deity of the temple is Arulmigu Subramaniasamy as in standing posture.

    The geographical location of the temples in between Velliangiri hill and Neeli Hills depicts the religious feature of Somaskanthar posture with kandhar in between if Velliangiri is considered as Lord Shiva are Neeli Hills as Parvathidevi Perur puranam has got reference regarding to the above said Somaskanthar posture.

    Lord Murugan has Six abodas, in Tamilnadu, Maruthamalai is considered and proposed as Seventh Abode of Lord Muruga by the devotees of Lord Muruga.
