- Sthala PuranIt is considered to be the oldest temple in the state as it was sung by the Pallavas in the 7th century AD by Thirugnanasambandar Thirunavukkarasar. Through the seven inscriptions on the outer wall of the temple`s Amman sanctum, it is known that the Chola kings like Rajendra Rajathirajan Rajendra Choladevan I, who ruled in the 1st century, Parakesarivarman, made various alterations to the temple and made many donations to the temple. According to historical records, Rajendra Chola, also known as Chola with the Ganges, was heavily involved in the worship of the temple many times during the reign of the Pallavas and Thirugnanasambandar Thirunavukkarasar in the 7th century. Although the temple was famous during the reign of the Pallava kings, most of the temple was built during the Chola period. It is said that the temple was built by the Pallava VII Chola kings. After the Chola kings, the Vijayanagara kings also maintained the temple well. We know from the inscriptions that Thiruvanmiyur was the deity of Kottur in the Puliyurk division of the conquered Chola region and that the name of the Swami was Thiruvanmiyur Mahadev Thiruvanmiyur, the Nayanar of the world.
