        Pride of the Place:
This temple was the subject matter of Thirugnanasambanthar, Appar, Sundharar and Manickavasagar. The temple is situated in Northern side of Tiruchirappalli District in between the two sacred rivers called River Cauvery and Kollidam. Lord Siva’s Temples were generally classified into or based on five elements. This temple was identified as Water (Appu). This temple is surrounded by Jamoon fruit trees and this tree was the tree of the temple. Lord Shiva of this temple was worshiped by a Rishi called Jambu and Goddess Ambikai and hence Lord Shiva was named as Jambukeshwarar. Another specialty of this temple was a spider and an elephant undertook penance for several thousand years and got the dharsahan and blessing of Lord Shiva. Further, Akilandeshwari was relieved from a dhosam called ‘Sthri Dhosam’. Hence the Goddess wore Sri Chakra in her ears as her jewel.

        Alankar of Deity

Mother Ambica is praised as Akhilandeswari– Ruler and Protector of the world.  This place is one of the Shakthi Peetas.  It is said that Ambica performs puja to Lord at midday.

To perform the midday puja, the priest performing puja to Mother dresses himself in a sari, wears the crown of Ambica, and comes to the Lord’s shrine while music plays, thus showing Ambica Herself praying to the Lord.

He performs abishek to the Lord and Gomatha (cow) and then returns to Ambica shrine.  Devotees worship the priest at this time considering him to be Ambica Herself.

Mother graces us as Mahalakshmi in the morning, Parvathi in the afternoon, and Saraswathi in the evening.

In the early days, Mother Ambica was in a furious form.  To control the fury, generally a Sri Chakra is installed at the feet of the Goddess. As an alternative, Acharya Sri Adi Shankara prepared two ear rings in which He applied the Sri Chakra power and adored Ambica.
